Toby Stanger is an artist based out of Bellingham, Washington. I have followed is art for a while and wanted to interview piece that both explored Toby's eccentric style and his personality.
"I walk up the stairs to the top of the Pickford Film center, and see Toby Standing outside of his studio. Extending a tattooed covered arm, the big friendly man shakes my hand and we walk into his studio cluttered with paintings. 'War Pigs' by Black Sabbath blasts from his ipod in the background and we start the interview. From the vibes in the studio and Toby himself, I immediately felt comfortable by his friendly presence. Toby’s art speaks for himself. He draws from a diverse range of iconography that has developed from sources such as being a child of the 1980’s, the Pacific Northwest Indie rock scene, and being a 'Star Wars Geek.' A lot of his work comes off as whimsical at first, but there is something deeper beneath the layers of acrylic that Toby is employing, it’s a complex and emotive vocabulary."
