Gone is a story I developed, illustrated, printed, and bound for an independent study.
The story revolves around themes of escapism, political turbulence, fascism, dreaming, and creativity. The main moral behind the story is how through art and creativity we can transcend hatred and bigotry. I wanted to use themes of fascism as a parallel to the some of the leaders that have gained popularity in our country—as well as others—as an attempt to empathize with those that are most vulnerable to ignorance and hate. Although I have not directly experienced a situation like this, I tried to imagine my best what growing up would be like in a time of extreme political and social unrest. Gone was a challenge in storytelling and empathy.
